Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Human Capital Agility (HCA) in enhancing the Smart and Resilient Supply Chain (SRSC) and its impact on Sustainable Growth (SG) among coffee SMEs in Central Java, Indonesia. A quantitative approach with an explanatory research design was employed through a survey of 130 respondents consisting of SME coffee owners and managers. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares – Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.

The findings reveal that HCA significantly influences SRSC (? = 0.512; p < 0.001), HCA directly affects SG (? = 0.298; p < 0.01), and SRSC significantly impacts SG (? = 0.456; p < 0.001). Furthermore, SRSC mediates the relationship between HCA and SG, with an indirect effect of 0.234 and a total effect of 0.532. These results indicate that achieving sustainable growth in coffee SMEs is not only determined by agile human capital but also by strengthening a resilient and digitally integrated supply chain.

Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature on the Resource-Based View (RBV), Dynamic Capability Theory (DCT), and Triple Bottom Line (TBL) within the SME context. Practically, the results provide strategic recommendations for coffee SMEs, government, and coffee associations to enhance human capital competencies, accelerate supply chain digitalization, and pursue sustainable growth strategies in the era of globalization.
